Amazon.com contends that books listed with the "Search Inside This Book" feature enabled sell better than books that do not allow searching. "Search Inside This Book" allows Amazon customers to browse a portion of the book's contents, much the way a brick-and-mortar bookstore customer will flip through the pages of a book in the store to determine whether that book is right for him or her. Two Peas Publishing can optionally enable Amazon.com's "Search Inside This Book" on your title.

Two Peas
Most popular packages | $2,520-3,140 |
BookSurge | $5,999 |
iUniverse | $5,049-5,599, no image work |
Xlibris | $4,499-14,499 |
Lulu.com | $2,369, no custom design, no editing |
Booklocker | does not offer comparable services |
BookSurge: the self-publishing arm of amazon.com: to get anywhere close to the same level of customization as Two Peas offers, you must purchase their “Marketing Pro Package” at $5,999. This includes their “Signature Cover Design,” which is semi-custom, but includes only 10 hours of design time at a cost of $999. It also includes a couple of rounds of editing, which BookSurge prices at $.019-.032 per word.
iUniverse: offers “custom” packages from $1,549-2,099. But read more closely. Their packages do not include any editing—that will cost you $.022-.029 per word. For an average length book, that will add about $3,500 to your price. Their “custom covers” really aren’t so custom either. They just place the image and text you provide them. No image correction, compositing, or manipulation is included. They won’t even remove red eye at this price!
Xlibris: offers DIY packages as low as $299; however, to get any custom work, or even be allowed to consult with a designer, you must purchase the Premium, Executive, or Platinum packages, at a cost of $2,999-12,999. That’s right, Thirteen THOUSAND dollars. And these packages do not include editing! That will set you back another $.01-.012 per word, or over $1,500 for the average book.
Lulu.com: a DIY company, they don’t even offer the types of services Two Peas provides. Their “Masterpiece Pack” retails at $1,369 but includes no editing or custom design work at all. They’ll let you work with a “designer” for an extra $1,000, but you will be allowed to “choose” from two designs and go through two rounds of revisions. Their web site does not include prices for editing, you must contact them for a quote.
Booklocker: low-end DIY shop that does not offer the types of services Two Peas provides.
